Find Ollie Perkins.
There’s just one problem.
Mike isn’t allowed to ask anyone about him. He can’t say his name. He doesn’t know what he looks like. So Mike takes a job as a security guard at a highly secure data facility on the edge of town and waits.
Then things start happening.
Lies get told. A body turns up. Foreign agents begin circling. Mike realises he's being watched and that he's not the only one looking for Ollie Perkins.
The pressure soon mounts. Mike needs to find the target before more people die.
BAITED is the third Mike Humber novel. A very different kind of British crime twist-loaded, contemporary, darkly funny, unpredictable and built around an ex-detective who survives largely through instinct, guile and an increasingly questionable relationship with authority.
I'm growing to really enjoy the Mike Humber series. As Haywood develops the books, and Mike's character, we get more of an insight into the inner workings of his frankly, completely fucked mind.
I've read a number of Haywood's books at this point and he's quickly becoming one of my favourite authors. His British whit and the way he writes is a breath of fresh air - it's nice to read someone who gets British sarcasm, but also dark humour.
All the Mike Humber books end in a crescendo where seemingly unrelated threads come together in a really satisfying way. I'm yet to predict any of the endings too, which is makes the stories all the more enjoyable.
Cracking read.
