Android or Apple, which are you? The two names are synonymous with flame wars about why one is better than the other. Personally, I think that this is because we’re so reliant on our those little Black Mirrors these days, that they have literally divided our society.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m certain that I spend far too much time on my smartphone every single day. To be honest, it concerns me; I don’t think it’s healthy. So what am I going to do about it?
Ditch That Smartphone
I’ve been thinking about ditching my smartphone for quite some time now – months actually, but there are a handful of use cases that I think will make it extremely difficult to give up my device. They are (in no particular order):
- The camera
- The many podcasts I listen to
- Email and calendar
I’ve decided to take the plunge and have bought myself the very basic Nokia 105 “feature phone” (ironic as they actually have very few features). I’m going to try and stick to this for at least a month, with a view to giving up my smartphone completely. However, I think this is going to exponentially more difficult than when I De-Googled my life.
My new feature phone is due for delivery today, so the process will likely start from tonight. With that, I will be starting a new series of posts about the challenges, workarounds and successes (hopefully) that I will inevitably come across during this process.
