Commenting Guidelines

These guidelines shouldn’t really be necessary, as most civilised people generally get on well together. However, this is the Internet so all bets are off.

These guidelines apply to every post on this site that contains a comment form.

The purpose of comments

The purpose of the comments section on this site is to give you the opportunity to add additional information I may have missed, or may be unaware of. Or to just add your thoughts or commentary on a post.

The comments section is not a space for you to advertise your company or service. However, posting links is fine as long as they add context to your comment, or have relevance to the post.

Read the post first

I’d always expect comments to take into account the post’s content. If you haven’t read the post in full and carefully, please don’t comment. If it’s obvious that you didn’t read the post, your comment is likely to be deleted.

Not a free speech zone

The comments section of my posts is not a free speech zone. If you would like to exercise your right to free speech, feel free to start your own blog.

All comments are held for moderation before they appear publicly on this site. Any comment that does not follow these guidelines will be deleted.

No Spam

This site is not a place for you to promote you product, service or blog. Please don’t post spam.

As mentioned earlier, feel free to post articles and links if they are of use and in keeping with the theme of the post. If I think it’s spam, it will get deleted.

Be excellent to each other

Debate is good; obnoxious comments, threats and general arguments are not. As a general rule of thumb, don’t write a comment if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face over a beer or a coffee.

No War and Peace

Unfortunately, I don’t have much spare time. What little spare time I do have, I like to spend writing, riding my motorbikes and spending time with my family, friends and my pets.

I love getting comments, but I really don’t have time to wade through a comment as long as a blog post. Feel free to write a response to my post on your own blog and post a link. If I have time, I’ll read it and others may find it useful.

If you don’t have a blog, I’ve written a fairly comprehensive guide on how to set one up.

Hopefully these guidelines will help keep comments succinct and useful for everyone. The idea is to share information and help one another. 🙂
